Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Once
treatment begins, how often do we need to come in for adjustments
A: Usually, we like to see patients every
four to six weeks.
Q: Will it
affect my treatment if I wait longer than six weeks for an adjustment?
A:Usually not, but we prefer to know about
extended absences so we may plan accordingly.
Q: What are
your hours of operation?
A: We are open Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00
pm.
Q: What is
included in your fees for braces?
A: Models, X-rays, photographs, all braces and
adjustments, 1 set of retainers, and retainer checkups for one year after
removal of braces.
Q: Will
you file my insurance?
A: We courtesy file your insurance with most
insurance plans. An exception to this is filing with DMOs or discount fee
plans, since we are not a participating provider for them. As for PPOs, most
people don't realize that their insurance will pay the same to an out of
network orthodontic provider as to a network provider. If you have any
questions concerning this, please contact your insurance company, or you can
contact us at billing@bracesbybradley.com and we'll be glad to answer your
questions.
Q: What
if my job requires me to relocate during my orthodontic treatment?
A: We will assist you in finding a new
orthodontist to complete your treatment.
Q: Do you
accept transfer patients?
A: Yes. We are usually able to complete your treatment as
originally planned, although sometimes minor alterations are necessary.
Q: What
do I do if a bracket breaks?
A: Please call our office to let us know. In the
interim, you may remove the bracket or cover with wax.
Q: How
can I relieve the discomfort of a poking wire?
A: Push the wire up or down with a pencil eraser
or cover with wax.
Q: How can I
relieve general discomfort in my mouth from the braces?
A: Take Tylenol or Advil as you
would for a headache.
Q: Why
do my teeth feel loose with my braces on?
A: This is normal. Braces actually loosen your
teeth in order to move them into the desired positions.
Q: Since
I got my braces on, my gums are swollen and red. Is this normal?
A: Slight swelling of the gums is normal in
tooth movement, but red, puffy gums are usually a sign of inadequate brushing
and flossing.
Q: While in
braces, do I need to continue seeing my general dentist?
A: Absolutely. We are able to spot major dental
problems, but other problems between teeth and under the gums need to be
treated by your general dentist. In addition, cleanings every six months while
in braces are extremely beneficial.
